The Northrise University-First Quantum Minerals Limited relationship has reached new heights with the donation of a school bus to the Solwezi based campus. The partnership has taken different face and has since grown into what can only be seen as a positively impacting change in society.
Not only has First Quantum been a major facilitator in the birth of the University’s Nursing School based in Solwezi, providing and furnishing the building, it has also continued to assist in the operation of the school.
Since its inception, the partnership has seen a numerous Northrise University graduates becoming a part of the First Quantum Family and has also seen a number of members of the mining corporation become a part of the Northrise Family.
The donation of the school bus only serves to show that this partnership continues to grow to greater heights. The bus is scheduled to arrive at the Solwezi campus and formally presented on the 15th of July 2016
The opening of the Solwezi School of Nursing is credited to Ms. Anna Pascal who said, at the official opening of the campus, that a well-trained nurse could save the healthcare budget by providing relevant health care and advise the ‘less expensive’ end of healthcare. The aim of the introduction of the School of Nursing is to provide healthcare staff for the healthcare facilities in North-Western Province as well as those located within the First Quantum System and Mary Begg Clinic, which has been brought on board to expand on opportunities and is a registered health care provider under the Ministry of Health.
This support of FQM brings smiles to both Northrise staff and students as this helps in the delivery of service to the community. Northrise University has always been passionate to improve Zambia through empowerment; FQM is complementing those efforts through its support to the University.
