Empowering to make a difference

The Northrise University Initiative (NUI) exists to support and communicate the vision and mission of NU, to accelerate growth and provide opportunities for students and faculty. Such expansion is not an end unto itself. Rather, growing is part of our overall vision and mission to transform Zambia and beyond, ONE STUDENT at a time.

Northrise directly addresses key issues that will advance Zambia to become a beacon of hope, stability, and prosperity in Africa. Amid limited economic opportunity, vast economic disparity, and brain drain, Northrise University provides an affordable, high-quality education that empowers students and graduates to create and participate in a broader economy, with an expanding middle class, as entrepreneurs, managers, and government leaders. Thus, NU is making a difference in the lives of Zambian students, who are, in turn, changing Zambia into a model of economic progress for the rest of Africa.

To these ends, NUI creates opportunities and involvement through our:

ONE STUDENT Scholarship Program

ONE STUDENT attends Northrise University because of your generous giving. ONE STUDENT is provided a quality education in a Christ-centered environment. ONE STUDENT is empowered to transform a nation. ONE STUDENT will never forget that you gave. 100% of ONE STUDENT Scholarship contributions go directly to benefit Northrise students.

The ONE STUDENT Scholarship Program provides financial support for students to receive a high-quality, Christ-centered education. With your investment of $3600 per year, you can provide one student with full tuition, lodging, and meals. Or, at $2400 per year, you can cover a student’s tuition alone.

By your generosity, you can help give students the opportunity to bring hope to the future of Zambia. In order for our students to become scholarship recipients, they must maintain a good GPA, faithfully attend class and chapel, participate in work study assignments, serve their community through service learning activities, and observe the code of conduct.

Here are a few inspirational stories of students who have received hope and whose lives have been transformed as a result of the sacrificial and generous support of our partners.

Please prayerfully consider how you might be able to come alongside our students, giving them hope for their own futures, and as they contribute to the transformation of the world around them.

Success Stories

Our greatest hope is for the success of our students in all aspects of their life.

Impact Ndola

Impact Ndola is a service trip under the leadership and direction of the students and staff of Northrise University designed to share God’s love by serving and ministering to the people of Ndola. The trip includes men’s and women’s conferences, children’s vacation Bible school-like activities, medical and dental clinics, building and farm projects, among other areas of ministering to the people of Ndola.

Our next trip is tentatively scheduled for of July 2023.

We will confirm or cancel the trip by July 31, 2022.  Trip duration ranges from 10-14 days. For 5 days, participants serve the local community, supporting Northrise students in activities that promote discipleship, evangelism, worship, medical services, and orphan care. The trip concludes with an opportunity to experience the beauty of Zambia with a 2-day trip to Victoria Falls or safariing in Luangwa National Park.

Overall cost is approximately $4,500, depending on flight arrangements and including participation in the trip to Victoria Falls in Livingstone. Fundraising tools are available.

  • The set cost for the mission/service trip week in Ndola is $1,000/person, which covers service project expenses as well as hotel, meals, and transportation in Ndola.
  • Flight expenses to travel to Zambia and back will vary, but average $2,000.
  • Required travel documents and optional medical precautions average $250-$500.
  • The optional trip to Livingstone will cost approximately $1,500/person.

FLIGHT DETAILS: Price-check these routes from your home airport to Ndola via: [LHR to JNB to NLA] or [DXB to JNB to NLA]. Academic and Campus Development

Laying the foundation for the next season in the life of Northrise University

The Board of Regents with Dr. Zimba and his leadership team have developed a path forward to meet increasing demands on NU’s academic program, and have also prepared near-term lists of capital programs to keep us on track with the milestones in our campus Master Plan. You can partner with Northrise to support what’s next in the development of Northrise University.

Academic Development Opportunities

NU is being challenged by the HEA to increase the number of PhD faculty members and to increase the amount of research we are publishing. Northrise needs to recruit PhDs and support a number of our faculty in pursuing their PhDs. The HEA is also requiring upgrades in our library and those needs have been met by an online library to which we have subscribed. NU will increase its bandwidth and has significantly enhanced NU’s online offering and operation through the purchase of a number of updated online software programs. The NU Online Study program has the potential to be a “difference-maker" for Northrise in Zambia and throughout sub–Saharan Africa. These new additions have increased our annual operating budget by $125K. Please consider supporting these new academic programs as we move to meet new HEA requirements and grow NU’s academic offering.

With new construction there are campus infrastructure needs as we build out the campus and increase the demand for security and maintenance. The next capital project to be funded is a Security and Maintenance Building ($200K) and Campus Security Fence ($240K). Additionally, to meet Zambia's need for leadership across sectors, we must continue to diversify our course offerings, and our next focus is the development of the School of Engineering.

School of Engineering

Our School of Engineering will provide degree programs to educate and develop the future of engineers of Zambia to serve the growing needs of the Zambian government in building roads/bridges and power infrastructure, and to provide qualified engineers for mining, construction, and manufacturing industries.

Please pray with us and consider joining our endeavor to build our new schools. We are beyond grateful to our supporters who have generously contributed over the years and welcome the opportunity for new friends to join our partners in making a difference in the lives of many young women and men in Zambia.

To consider a partnership with the School of Engineering, email its Development Committee Chair, Joe Aikins at jaikins@jtamengineering.com. Or, you may donate now.
