Mental Health Week: A Journey of Community, Compassion, and Connection with YANA Foundation

From October 14th to October 17th, 2024, I had the incredible opportunity to dive headfirst into events that celebrated mental health, self-expression, and the beauty of community during @YANA Foundation’s Mental Health Week. The experience was more than just a program—it was a heartfelt reminder that “You Are Not Alone,” a message YANA powerfully champions.

One of the week’s standout activities was the “Sticky Notes of Expression.” A simple yet profound idea: people could write notes and stick them on a board. These weren’t just ordinary notes; they were tiny windows into the thoughts, feelings, and experiences of others. Some offered advice, others shared personal stories, and many provided words of encouragement. Watching the board gradually fill up with vibrant slips of paper was inspiring. Each note was a reminder that everyone has a story, and by sharing it, we connect in meaningful ways. Whether people were revealing their dreams, and struggles, or simply offering kind words, the activity created a safe space for vulnerability, reinforcing the idea that no one walks this journey alone.

Another quirky and delightful activity was the “Pick a Card” dish—not your average food-based challenge, but rather a collection of simple, nourishing tasks. Each card contained a small, heartwarming dare: “Hug someone,” “Give a compliment,” “Take a deep breath.” These tiny actions packed a punch, encouraging us to step out of our comfort zones and spread kindness. I still smile when I think about the card I chose—it reminded me that sometimes, in the smallest ways, we can brighten someone’s day just as others brighten ours.

Throughout the week, the theme of “You Are Not Alone” resonated in every interaction. YANA’s message was clear: no matter what you’re facing, support is always within reach—whether it’s from friends, family, or communities like this one. Mental health can often feel like a personal battle, but this week served as a powerful reminder that we don’t have to face it by ourselves.

In the end, @YANA Foundation’s Mental Health Week wasn’t just an event—it was a deeply moving and enlightening experience. From writing notes to sharing in simple acts of kindness, the week beautifully captured the essence of compassion, community, and the comforting realization that, together, we are stronger.
