Dear Student,
I am pleased to welcome you to a new Academic Year at NU. To our returning students, welcome back to what I anticipate to be an excellent year of challenges and triumphs. I hope your time of rest was indeed restful. To our new students I say welcome! I hope that our promise of integrating faith and learning will not just be rhetoric but something you will sense and experience. I trust that you will all find your classes challenging and enriching as you pursue your life’s calling through diligent study.
Because of the events that characterized the start of our Academic Year in 2018, we are thankful to the Lord that the cholera epidemic has been contained in our country. I recognize the solemn responsibility we have to ensure that Northrise University remains a safe and socially active place where all students, faculty, and staff are supported. My prayer is that you will find this place inviting and comfortable to learn in.
As we begin this year together as members of the Northrise community—a community that is intentionally inviting and inclusive—I am mindful of how thankful I am to be a part of a place that understands that being Christ-centered is our strength. Let me remind you of the University’s mission, “Northrise is a Christ-centered educational institution dedicated to equipping men and women to work in ministry and business to contribute to the spiritual and economic transformation of Zambia.” We must often call on these mission imperatives as we face the urgent challenges of this very time. Our focus and strategy are clear: we desire to give the best service to you and honor our God as we do so.
Our goal is not just to provide an education that leads to a career and a future. Northrise University aims to deepen your faith as you broaden your knowledge and skills. Our goal is to equip you with the very best education based on the rock solid foundation of faith in Jesus Christ, so that whatever path you choose, NU will point you to a better way of living in your personal life, churches, different organizations, businesses, communities, and our planet.
I would like to share some new developments concerning the high level structure of Northrise. The Board of Regents has approved for the University to consist of two faculties – the Faculty of Business and Law and the Faculty of Science and Human Development. This is in comparison with the “schools” under which our programs fell prior to Academic Year 2018. Nothing changes as far as your program is concerned. It may now be categorized under a “Faculty” instead of a “School” or vice versa as it previously was. This change was necessary for the University to structurally operate more efficiently and effectively, as well as align more to the requirements of the Higher Education Authority (HEA).
Finally, I’d like to request that you pray for one another and for Northrise. Remember that the prayer of the righteous avails much. And don’t forget to be a friend of God on a daily basis as we have been learning in our morning chapel services.
I wish you the very best in 2018 and look forward to seeing you around campus soon.
