Northrise University Main Campus Library supports learning, teaching, and research for students, faculty and staff by providing access to vast information and a conducive environment for quiet personal study. The University library subscribes to online libraries including EBSCOHOST, JSTOR,  HINARI, and ZALICO for world-class access to databases, peer-reviewed open-access journals, e-books, theses, worldwide open-access collections, video, and other research content. With a myriad of current resources both in hard copy and electronic format, our library collections are meant to provoke aptness and promote intellectual growth, creativity, and ingenuity in our students and teachers, and other researchers.

Library Membership

Current Northrise University Faculty, Staff, and Students are members of the Northrise University Library. All members of the Library are eligible to borrow books and other materials from the Northrise University Library.

Onsite Library Usage

Book Loaning Procedure:

Access to the Library is reserved for community members with a valid Northrise University ID Card. Library members have the following privileges:

Undergraduate/Postgraduate students

  • Students - 2 Books for 3 days
  • University Council Members - 2 Books for 14 days

Faculty staff/Members of staff

  • Academic Staff - 4 Books for 30 days
  • Support Staff -  2 Books for 14 days

Short Loans

The overnight short loan period is between 16:00 hours to before 10:00 hours the next day for limited materials and high-demand books used within the library.

NOTES:

  1. Students that are not registered for classes but finishing up an incomplete class, thesis, or research may apply for borrowing privileges.
  2. Students’ access to physical materials (Books, Journals, Computers, etc.) is only applicable within the Library.

Online Libraries

The Northrise University online Library subscriptions include EBSCOhost, HINARI, JSTOR, and ZALICO. Library members can access Online Resources 24/7 through the Student Portal.

EBSCOHost

EBSCOhost - Contains a broad range of current library resources such as ebooks, Journals, Magazines, etc. Library users can download eBooks for a maximum loan period of 7 days. EBSCOhost is accessed anywhere and anytime by means of a Northrise University log-in student account.

HINARI

HINARI - Comprises Journals for the medical field. Library users can access the University’s resources on HINARI by means of a Northrise University logged-in student account.

ARDI

ARDI - Gives access to Scientific and Technical information. This resource comprises Journals/Articles for Information Technology (IT) and Computer Science students.

GOALI

GOALI - This resource platform focuses on Law and Social Sciences, including Politics, Economics, Philosophy, History and more.

JSTOR

JSTOR - Stocks different types of Journals for fields in Business, Finance, Information Technology, Theology, etc. Library users with Northrise logged-in student accounts can access JSTOR within the institution’s local area network.

ZALICO

ZALICO - Provides Northrise students and faculty with enhanced information resources through global library collections and research databases. Some of the collections include Royal Society Journals online, American Institute of Physics Journals, American Physical Society, etc.

Authorized Website Resource Links:

Through the Library Computer Center, NU Library also offers NU students computing and research services. Primarily, students are to use these computer systems for academic, educational, and research purposes. Librarians reserve the right to observe computers and limit the amount of time that a user may occupy a computer, especially during peak student usage periods to ensure equitable access to all students.
The Library computer center contains high-performing computers for use by library users from 08:30 hours to 19:30 hours and provides users with seamless access to an internet connection. However, access to these computers is limited to a first-come-first-served basis.
Note: By using NU Computers, all users implicitly agree to abide by the Northrise University Computer and Library Usage Policy.

    Authorama features free books from a wide range of authors. All of the books on this site are public domain and are formatted in XHTML, which means that text style and illustrations have been preserved. Currently more than 100 free books are available, with new books added on a regular basis.

    If fiction isn't your favorite thing, Chest of Books is a good place for you. This free online library features nonfiction books on a wide range of topics, including business, art,computers, finance, health, history, gardening, home improvement, science, real estate, sports and travel.

    The Classic Bookshelf is a nice place to read classic books online because of its easy readability program. Users can open the free book of their choice and then decide how they'd like the screen to look. Things readers can customize include page color, text color, print size, margin size and font.

    Classic Reader has nearly 4,000 free classic books, poems, plays and short stories. You may read the books for free online and even add your own annotations.

    • www.fullbooks.com

    FullBooks.com offers thousands of books that can be read online for free. All of these books are sorted by title. FullBooks.com also has links to sites with free reference books, biographies and science books.

    Project Gutenberg is the original free electronic book producer. There are currently over 25,000 books in its online catalog, with 100,000 more titles available from many partners and affiliates.

    The International Children's Digital Library Foundation provides access to online free books for children around the world. Books are available in many different languages and most of them feature user-submitted activities and other content that can be used in conjunction with the books.

    The Internet Public Library is a good place to access newspapers, magazines and reference works. Nearly 100 links that will take site visitors to websites offering free online books. Links are updated regularly and include descriptions to help you find what you're looking for.

    LibriVox is a unique online library catering to both listeners and readers. The site has free audio books and links to text versions to read online. Other site features include book summaries, author bios and links to further book-related content.

    The University of Pennsylvania's Online Books Page is a great place to read free online books. There are more than 30,000 English language works available. All of them are nicely formatted and can be read right on your computer.

    Perseus Digital Library of Tufts University is an evolving digital library featuring a wide range of materials and constantly updated with new content. Current works include modern English Literature, classics and science papers.

    Questia is best known as a resource for writers and students, but the site also hosts a library featuring more than 5,000 free books that may be read online. Offerings include rare books as well as classics.

    Read Print is a free online library that was designed for teachers, students and readers of classic books. This well-organized site has its thousands of free books sorted by author. Other features include literature articles and a section on Shakespeare.
