Class of 2017

3rd June, 2017 was a notable day; a reason for pride, joy and exhilaration as Northrise University celebrated the significant academic accomplishment of 60 students who were conferred with degrees at the university’s 10th Graduation Ceremony.  In addition to proudly presenting its own graduates, the University was pleased to also certify and present 11 graduates from Educore Academy, its affiliate college located in Solwezi. Northrise University participates in improving the quality of education at college level by accrediting and partnering with lower learning academic institutions in Zambia.

It was a historic occasion, filled with fond memories for each graduate and the Northrise University (NU) community as a whole. From preparations by staff and faculty to rehearsals and a lovely dinner a night before the ceremony, in honour of the graduates by First National Bank (FNB), every bit of effort and activity came down to the dignified regalia, majestic walk and a doff as each graduate received their award. The aura of accomplishment that surrounded them regardless of their discipline was extraordinary, you couldn’t help but give a round of applause.

Dr. David Lawson, the NU Board of Regents member and chair of the NU academic senate graced the ceremony. In his occasional address, he gave the graduates many valuable lessons and charged them to make a difference. “Try to leave your profession, your community and individuals around you better than you first encountered them…to do this, you’ve got to keep on learning not just about your profession but about what it takes to make a difference”

The Class of 2017 Valedictorian, Taonga Tembo, urged her fellow graduates to go out with courage and be excellent at what is good, to go and transform Zambia asserting that “If we do not do so, our country will not move forward.”

Dr. Zimba, charged graduates to fix their eyes on Jesus because he alone never fails. He added that life is a package of challenges and joys and the only ones who persevere are those that trust in the Lord.

The ceremony was not short of recognition of unparalleled academic excellence and achievement. Taonga Tembo (BBA) scooped best graduating GPA award; a cash prize of K2, 000.00 courtesy of Professional Insurance (PICZ) and Blessing Bwalya (BScCN) scooped the best ICT graduating GPA award; cash price of K2, 000.00 courtesy of Vodafone Zambia.

They walked in as freshmen and walked out as proud Northrise graduates; hats off class of 2017!
