Northrise University Research Ethics Committee

About NUREC

The Northrise University Research Ethics Committee (NUREC) is an essential institutional entity mandated to review any research undertaking involving human and animal subjects. Our primary mission is to ensure that all research projects adhere to both national and international ethical principles, safeguarding the rights, dignity, safety, and well-being of all participants.

NUREC is dedicated to fostering a culture of academic integrity and ethical awareness among students, faculty, and researchers, supporting Northrise University’s commitment to research excellence. Our reviews are guided by internationally recognized standards, including the Nuremberg Code, the Declaration of Helsinki, and the Belmont Report.

Meeting Frequency

NUREC maintains a regular schedule to ensure timely feedback for researchers:

  • Ordinary Meetings: Held quarterly on the Friday of Week 17 of each semester for the main committee. For external researchers, ordinary meetings occur every two months.

  • Expedited Review Meetings: The committee meets monthly to review low-risk applications.

  • Emergency Meetings: Called as and when there is a critical need or a specific application for expedited review requires immediate attention.

Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

NUREC operates under a rigorous set of SOPs to ensure consistent and transparent ethical evaluations. Key elements of our procedure include:

  • Submission Requirements: Researchers must submit three copies of their proposal (one soft copy via email to nuresearch@northrise.net and two hard copies).

  • Ethical Review Criteria: All protocols are assessed for scientific merit, social value, risk-benefit balance, and the adequacy of informed consent.

  • Participant Protection: We provide specialized oversight for research involving vulnerable groups, such as children and individuals with diminished autonomy.

  • Post-Approval Monitoring: NUREC monitors ongoing studies through progress reports and site visits to ensure continued compliance.
