Northrise University (NU) and Mulungushi University (MU) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a framework for long-term collaboration in teaching, research, capacity building, and academic development.

The MoU, signed in March 2026, brings together two Zambian universities with a shared interest in strengthening higher education and contributing to national development. The agreement provides a formal platform for the institutions to collaborate across areas including Science, Engineering, Business, Law, Communication and Information Technology, and Quality Assurance.

At the heart of the partnership is the opportunity to move beyond institutional boundaries and create meaningful academic connections. The agreement provides for the exchange of academic staff for research, teaching and specialised courses, as well as opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate student exchanges, projects, study programmes, internships and industrial attachments.

The two institutions will also explore joint research projects, joint grant management and resource mobilisation, international partnerships, capacity-building initiatives, and collaborative educational activities. The MoU further provides for joint conferences, seminars, colloquia and symposia, alongside the exchange of scientific and educational literature and opportunities for joint publications.

Importantly, the partnership also recognises the connection between universities and the world of work. Among the areas identified for cooperation are joint industry-academic partnerships, creating opportunities for the institutions to connect academic knowledge with practical applications and broader professional development. Joint quality assurance seminars and workshops are also included within the scope of the agreement.

The collaboration will be coordinated through designated units at both institutions. At Mulungushi University, implementation will involve the Directorate of Research and Postgraduate Studies, while Northrise University will work through its Research and Innovation and Academic Standards and Quality units, alongside other relevant academic departments.

The MoU will remain in force for five years, unless terminated earlier in accordance with its provisions. Specific activities will be developed through mutually agreed cooperation frameworks and project arrangements between the two institutions.

For Northrise University, the partnership represents another step towards strengthening collaboration within Zambia’s higher-education sector. By building bridges at home, NU and MU create a foundation for sharing knowledge, strengthening academic capacity, supporting students and researchers, and contributing collectively to Zambia’s development.
