Dr. Rex Horne Jr. joined the Northrise University Initiative in January as Development Officer, sharing the vision and mission of Northrise University, in a multi-state area including Texas, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, and Arkansas. In this new position, Rex will be introducing new friends to Northrise University focusing on capital campaign funding and sustainable giving to support student scholarships, faculty development, and project initiatives.

Last May Rex and his wife Becky were invited by friends to participate in a vision trip to Northrise and the beautiful country of Zambia. “We had always wanted to go to Africa. With the opportunity to spend a couple of days at Victoria Falls, two more at a beautiful lodge where we were treated to two days of safaris, then a visit to Northrise University, a Christian school started some twelve years ago, we said yes! We were overwhelmed with what we saw and experienced in Africa. We came away with a desire to help our friends change a nation through faith and education. Northrise University is doing that and can do more.”

Rex became president of Arkansas’ Independent Colleges and Universities on July 1, 2015. The organization serves eleven private colleges and universities. Prior to his selection as president of the AICU, he was the 15th president of Ouachita Baptist University for nine years. Previously he served as Senior Pastor of Little Rock’s Immanuel Baptist Church for almost 16 years.

Rex attended Ouachita Baptist University and later graduated from Lyon College (formerly Arkansas College) in Batesville, Arkansas. He earned a Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, and the Doctor of Ministry degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Horne has served as a member of the Board for Baptist Health and on the advisory board of Southern Bancorp. Rex and Becky have four adult children and twelve grandchildren.

God is good all the time and we are grateful to Him for bringing Rex and Becky into our lives and for their desire to serve with us on this amazing journey. May God bless their efforts as they share the Northrise story and may we all continue to work together to transform the nation of Zambia, one student at a time. – Moffat Zimba

Please extend a warm welcome to Rex and Becky Horne and pray for them as God works in and through them all to His glory.
